Not a few thousand. Try $1 million in one bag. And they did it legally... just filled out a form and hopped on a flight to Dubai. The money? It came from fake daycare scams. Some of these folks were on welfare, billing the state for kids who never showed up, then sending the money overseas. One woman even billed for childcare while staying in $800-a-night hotels in Kenya. Federal agents linked some of the cash to areas controlled by al Shabaab, a terrorist group in Somalia. Whistleblowers tried to sound the alarm, but nothing changed. By 2016, over $84 million had flown out in carry-ons. Minnesota officials knew. Washington knew. And now in 2025, the fraud is worse.
